Standing room only at the CBC Accelerator Award Information Session at Northwestern
The room was filled for the Chicago Biomedical Consortium’s (CBC) Accelerator Award Information Session earlier this week on December 11, 2018. Held in Cook Hall at Northwestern’s Evanston campus, the meeting started with Rick Morimoto, Bill and Gayle Cook Professor of Biology and CBC Scientific Director, presenting information related to the CBC’s programs, including its newest award program, the Accelerator Award.
Following the slide presentation, Rick led a lively panel discussion with two Accelerator Awardees, Rick Silverman, Patrick G. Ryan/Aon Professor of Chemistry, Northwestern University and Arnon Lavie, Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Also participating in the panel were Dimitra Georganopoulou, Director of Commercialization, Innovation and New Ventures (INVO) at Northwestern, Melissa Maderia, Technology Manager, Office of Technology Management (OTM) at UIC and Matthew Martin, Microbiome Lead, Technology Commercialization, Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at The University of Chicago.
Rick Silverman and Arnon Lavie shared their advice and guidance with faculty members about ways to be successful with the Accelerator Award application process, while the panelists from the technology transfer offices at the three institutions described how their teams would assist faculty with the preparation of their Letters of Intent (LOIs), slide presentations and full application proposals. The panel discussion wrapped up with an opportunity for audience members to interact with the panel during the Q&A.
Once the information session concluded, the audience and panelists enjoyed a networking lunch, allowing participants to discuss their research programs with one another.
Watch for future Chicago Biomedical Consortium’s Lunch Series Information Sessions that will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago and The University of Chicago in 2019!
