CBC Scholars “Loop Connections” Colloquium

“Signaling to Scale: Forging a path from the molecule to the organism”

scholars_coll_poster_2012_smDATE: Thursday, June 28, 2012
TIME: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
LOCATION: Prentice Women’s Hospital
Conference Center, Canning Auditorium, 3rd floor
250 East Superior Street, Chicago, Illinois 60611

The ability to interpret and respond to specific signals is a hallmark of living organisms. In general, signaling can be viewed as a cascade of events involving signal reception, amplification, transduction, and ultimately, response generation. These events occur at the levels of molecules, cells, and systems. However, the connections between these different levels are often not adequately understood. In the inaugural CBC Scholars ‘Loop Connections’ Colloquium, Signaling to Scale, we will bring together 3 prominent scientists who each perform exciting research using different approaches that predominantly fall into one of the three levels of signal transduction that we have outlined. In addition to describing their specific research, each speaker will indicate how their work contributes to a broader understanding of mechanisms that lie at the heart of signal transduction. Following the 30 minute talks, there will be a short panel discussion which will focus on strategies to effectively bridge the gap between studies of signal transduction at different scales, in order to develop a more comprehensive understanding of such a fundamental biological process.

The event is free of charge and is open to all members of the CBC community from UChicago, UIC and NU but pre-registration is required.

Online registration is now closed.
